Polished concrete floors are becoming more and more popular as people become aware of their many advantages and durability. When correctly treated and polished through marble floor polishing process they are virtually maintenance-free, requiring only an occasional wipe over with a damp mop.
When a concrete floor sealer is used they are stain and spill-resistant. They can be produced in an almost limitless combination of colors and patterns with the use of saw cuts or stencils, and they can be polished so that they have the same sheen as marble or granite.
If a dye is used on concrete it can be absorbed more in some areas than others, so giving an interesting mottled effect.
If you are laying a new concrete floor you can incorporate all sorts of things to create a different effect. For instance, a concrete floor could have glass beads in it, seashells, pebbles from the beach, or other items which when the floor has been polished will give it a unique and distinctive appearance. It can have any color that you wish incorporated into it, so you can easily have a plain finish if you prefer.
If you are going to polish an existing concrete floor, then certain preparations will need to be made. The surface will need to be prepared to ensure that any dirt, grease, or coatings are removed. Many concrete floors may have had something laid over them, such as carpet, and they will need to be cleaned to remove any remnants.
