How Ayahuasca is Made?

Ayahuasca – also known as wine, tea, and lapurga – is a drink made from the leaves of Psychotria Viridis bush along with Banisteriopsis caapi stem of the wine, although other plants and materials can be added as well.

This drink is used for religious and spiritual purposes by ancient Amazonian tribes and is still used as a sacred drink by several religious communities. Before joining the ayahuasca ceremony, you must know what ingredients are in Ayahuasca?

Traditionally, the shaman or curandero – an experienced healer who leads the Ayahuasca ceremony – to prepare a drink by boiling the leaves torn from the Psychotria Viridis bush and stems of Banisteriopsis caapi vine in the water.

The Banisteriopsis caapi grapes are cleaned and destroyed before boiling to improve the extraction of medicinal compounds.

When the drink was reduced in accordance with the shaman, the water is removed and reserved, leaving the plant material. This procedure is repeated until an extremely concentrated liquid produced. Once cooled, the drinks were strained to remove impurities.

The main ingredient of Ayahuasca i.e. Psychotria Viridis and Banisteriopsis caapi – both have hallucinogenic properties.

Psychotria Viridis contains N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a psychedelic element that arises certainly in the plant. DMT is a powerful hallucinogen chemistry. However, it has low bioavailability.

For this reason, DMT must be mixed with a thing that comprises MAO inhibitors, which makes DMT be legal.
